AirTrain Newark Replacement Program

Pile Load Test Program (EWR-154.940G)

Newark, New York

The AirTrain Newark Replacement Program will replace the current outmoded system with a modern, reliable 2.5-mile automated people mover train system. PANYNJ (Port Authority of New York and New Jersey) conducted a test pile program for verification of designed foundation piles. The test pile program consisted of driving four, 20in O.D. close ended pipe piles, drilling four, 13-3/8in O.D. micro piles, and conducting twelve pile load tests (compression, tension, and lateral).

Greenway USA was hired by PANYNJ for the project management. AMERIGEO was retained by the project management firm, Greenway USA for professional engineering services dealing with all technical issues arising during the construction and testing of the test piles. As per the specifications, all spoils generated as a result of pile driving and drilling micro piles were sampled for soil waste characterization to determine the potential disposal facilities. Clean water was imported to the Site and used during micro pile installations as a drilling liquid, the drilling liquid was then stored in the setting tanks, and sampled and tasted for the disposal facility parameters as per the spec. requirement.
