Queensboro Correctional Facility Project

Queens, New York

The project consisted of a replacement of power utilities in the Queensboro Correction facility in New York City. The new power utilities were planned to be on supports of driven piles in order to transfer the structural loadings to the satisfactory bearing soils underling uncontrolled fill and unsatisfactorily bearing organic clay/peat materials. As per the project quality control requirements and the NYS building code, the pile construction was performed under a full time inspection of our NY Licensed engineer who is familiar with constructions of deep foundations, and the mobilized capacities of piles need to be verified using onsite dynamic testing, Pile Driving Analyzer (PDA) in accordance with the NYS building code and ASTM D4945.

The foundation contractor has engaged Amerigeo, Inc., to provide engineering services for pile inspection, and pile feasibility and drivability studies for selection of a pile and establishing a driving criteria, and verifications of mobilized capacities during pile driving based on our interpretations of the results of the PDA testing and the subsurface soil conditions. The pile integrity testing was provided by a subcontracted deep foundation testing specialty firm that developed most of the pile integrity testing methods and Equipment. We provided the pile certification letter to the project owner.
